“You love to give hardworking women who aren’t married unnecessary titles” Debbie Shokoya defends Toke Makinwa over COP28 Summit, poses important question to Nigerians

Nollywood actress, Debbie Shokoya has come to the defense of her colleague, Toke Makinwa over her appearance at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai.

Esabod Global News reported that Toke had earned backlash after a video of her attending the event alongside the President surfaced online. Many had assumed that the media personality was dating a politician, hence, her presence at the high-profile event.

Defending her, Debbie noted how Nigerians are fond of giving hardworking women who aren’t married unnecessary titles based on their assumptions.

Debbie stated that she couldn’t understand the hate as she questioned why people felt Toke was undeserving of such honor. She noted how the media personality works hard as she slammed netizens for crediting her success to a man.

Calling their behavior to her unfair, Debbie wrote,

“Please why do people think Toke Makinwa doesn’t deserve something tho?

I feel like it’s so unfair!!!

This is someone who has been working hard for years. So, people choose to shove aside this hard work and put the credit on men!!

Being unmarried is a sin in Nigeria. Wooow!!!

I Still Wouldn’t Understand The Hate!!!
You People Find A Way To Give Hardworking Women Who Aren’t Married, Unnecessary Titles based on Your Assumptions!!!
Why Pls???‼️

What Are You Telling The Young Generation?
That Being Married Is An Achievement And Will Free You From People Unnecessarily Judging You And Your Wins?
Make It Make Sense Pls”.

Recall that singer, Davido had also weighed into it, pointing out how any Nigerian in Dubai for a holiday would be scared to post on social media because of the backlash.

He said how Nigerians are getting triggered by the country’s delegates list was funny but he loves it.

Debbie Shokoya had also stylishly defended Toyin Abraham, by singing her praises on her birthday amid draggings for being a proud supporter of President Tinubu.

In a lengthy post on her Instagram page, Debbie hailed Toyin Abraham for being one of the rugged beings who has fought hard times and is still standing strong.

Describing her as an unpredictable being, she complimented her for her passion, hard work, beauty, talent, love, energy and winning spirit.

She stated that she was celebrating Toyin Abraham’s growth, and resilience, who she was before, who she is today, and who she will be tomorrow.
