Refreshing your memory, Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away at 27 under unclear circumstances on September 12. Following his death, videos made rounds of him being bullied by his former boss and his members. The Nigeria Police are still trying to unravel the mystery behind his death.
As part of their Christmas celebration, a church in the United States paid tribute to the singer. The church erected a statue-like Father Christmas portrait of Mohbad.
In October, in celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day, Mohbad was honored in New York with an Independence Day event
The Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Lot Egogipa, made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in New York, where he admonished Nigerians living in the U.S. to be hopeful about the future of the country and its leadership.
The news didn’t sit well with many as they noted how no one paid attention to the singer when he cried for help before his untimely demise.
Since his death, Mohbad’s fame has soared higher, with American rapper, Meek Mill even reacting to his death by appreciating the way Nigerians are fighting for him.
3 of the rapper’s songs have been ranked in the Billboard Top 10 and he has become the first African artist without an album to do it.
This achievement brought renewed attention to his music and legacy, and it’s worth noting that securing a place on the Billboard Hot 100 is no small feat. This chart represents the most popular songs in the United States, and it is highly competitive. For Mohbad to achieve this milestone without even releasing a full album is a huge milestone.
