“Acting Isn’t Something That Has Been In My Life” Tonto Dikeh Quits Nollywood As She Pursues Political Ambition

 

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh has followed the footsteps of her colleagues, Funke Akindele and Banky W.

The actress who shocked many when she announced her political ambition had put her career on hold to pursue politics.

Esabod Global news reported that Tonto Dikeh had joined the leagues of celebrities contesting for political seats.

The controversial actress took many by surprise as she announced her political ambition.

The actress revealed that she was picked as the running mate for Governorship Candidate Tonte Ibraye of the African Democratic Congress, Rivers State.

Urging her fans to get their PVC, Tonto Dikeh listed the things she would focus on during her time in power.

“I thank Mr Tonte Ibraye, the Governship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Rivers State for nominating me as his running mate. We are looking forward to investing massively in social protection, creating a social value system for young people, increased women inclusion in our governance system supporting small businesses and strengthening our traditional institutions to be active players in the drive to bring sustainable development to the good people of Rivers State. I am glad to be a proud member of the #RiversRescueMission2023 Please get your PVC and join the movement. You are Future and The Future is now!”

In an interview with BBC News Pidgin, Tonto said she would not return to acting if her party lost the governorship election in Rivers State.

Giving reasons, Tonto Dikeh said she doesn’t like movies like that, and it has been a long time since he acted on screen.

“I’ve acted in about two films in 10 years, I appreciate that my path started from Nollywood, it is something that I respect, but it’s not something that has been in my life.

So even after the election, it’s not something I’ll return to, but I’ll love to contribute to the industry when I get into power”.

Tonto Dikeh commended her colleagues, Funke Akindele and Banky W, for their courage and political participation.

“It is not easy for Funke and Banky W at their level to put themselves out there to effect change because criticisms and so many things are involved.

I believe in Funke, I believe in Banky. With them, I can hold onto something and say I believe they have a vision for the people”.

Esabod Global news recalls Funke Akindele Bello had confirmed the reports making waves about her political career, which is associated with the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

The mother of two shared a video on her verified social media page to confirm that she has been chosen as a running mate to PDP’s Lagos State gubernatorial candidate, Dr Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor.

News broke out on the internet that Funke Akindele was among the selected few to be reviewed as running mate for the PDP Lagos state governorship candidate.

Funke Akindele, known to shun any reports about her personal life and career, formally declared her decision to accept Jandor’s call as the state’s deputy governor.

Funke Akindele also disclosed that she was ready to pay the price of embracing politics which will temporarily hold her career in the Nollywood industry.
