Nollywood actress Ekene Umenwa has shared her personal story about the challenges she faced early in her acting career, including pressure to abandon her Christian beliefs in exchange for success.
According to The Nation, she opened up about her journey and the trials she endured to stay true to her faith in the entertainment industry.
She said during her early days in Nollywood, some individuals advised her to give up her religious beliefs, claiming it would help her succeed faster in the industry.
"When I came to Nollywood years ago, I was told by some folks drop this your Jesus and Mary and move with the flow so you can make it", she wrote.
According to her, she refused and turned to her Christian faith for guidance. She stated that God encouraged her to remain focused and not allow herself to be distracted by the pressures around her.
Umenwa explained that she held on to her spiritual values despite challenges and is now thankful she stayed on that path. She said her progress and recognition in the industry came without compromise and believes her story can inspire others to hold on to their faith.
She expressed happiness that many entertainers now speak openly about their faith, adding that her own success serves as a testimony that standing firm in one’s beliefs can lead to lasting achievements.
She concluded her message by praising God for using her as an example to encourage others, saying her journey is proof that faith and career success can go hand in hand.
